Metro Arts in Transit Teams up with the Saint Louis Art Fair

Presented by

This year the Art Fair will be celebrating 15 years of brining high quality arts experiences to St. Louis. In honor of our anniversary the Saint Louis Art Fair is partnering with Metro Arts in Transit to commission work from local artist Carol Fleming.

Fleming will create three Grandfather Clocks.  Her inspiration behind the pieces came when she observed people using the Transit Center.  Fleming states “As the Metro Link riders used the stations, they are thinking about time, money, the right time table, correct change, etc. Grandfather Clocks are rather quaint icons of old fashion times in modern urban living. Still the idea of time is timeless!” Fleming goes on to say that “The City of Clayton to me represents commerce and people living together in community.  The Grandfather clock theme, manifested in three similar but distinctive pieces, will help unify the experience of walking in and out of the station.”

The public will have the special opportunity to watch the creation of these Grandfather Clocks from start to finish during the festival weekend. Following the Art Fair the Grandfather Clocks will be installed at the Transit Center in Clayton at S. Central and Shaw Park Drive.
