| 2. Why do you say that? |
- Hi quality work , educated & spending customers, good food, good music, organized and respectful fair committee
- Good layout, no bad locations. The customers were interested and knowledgeable, and they bought. Great Hospitality room.
- SLAF consistently draws a spending crowd. SLAF staff/volunteers appear organized and committed to allowing artists to focus on selling.
- Everything seems to run so smoothly and the public is truly interested in learning about the artwork and buying it. My only concern is that it seems like the number of commercial and non-profit booths is growing.
- Good sales, great ambiance and audience. Great organization and artist services
- Good turnout, artists are treated really well. Good sales.
- Its obvious that the show holds artists in high regard by the way they treat them.
- Maybe a better show for 2d? Or a fine art as opposed to fine craft? Not many people came through the show as others. Not my clientele.
- Artist is well taken care of, sales are pretty good, show is professional
- The show is well run but the audience is not out of the ordinary.
- Sales were not good
- In terms of sales, I did much better at Cherry Creek but this year's St. Louis was up there with Long's Park, Lakefront, etc.
- My sales were not what I expected for all the things I heard.
- Sophisticated, knowledgeable patrons, great sales, evening hours work!
- The show would get an excellent except for the sponsor booths being mixed in the artist booths. Makes the show look unorganized and makes the quality look lower.
- Excellent in all respects
- Attention to detail from check in to break down. Friendly and efficient.
- Well run, thoughtful of exhibitors concerns; good information for exhibitors in a timely fashion.
- Most of the work at the show was top notch but there were some booths that were not.
- After years of trying - waitilist three times - I finally get in - drive from Florida and make ZERO SALES! This was supposed to be such a good show - what a disappointment
- Good audience, knowledgeable audience, excellent sales, wonderful treatment by staff
- It was well-run, high quality, artist-friendly
- Very well organized and promoted. I appreciate the wonderful volunteers and all the help. Sales were O.K.
- Sophisticated and affluent crowd. Nice treatment of artists by staff and crowd. Easy in and out loading. Good overall quality of artists
- Sales were good but I had hoped for excellent due to the show's reputation.
- Sales, size of show (# of artists), quality of jurying, # of awards, ease of set-up, artist treatment from staff were all excellent
- Well organized, treat artists well, easy setup and takedown, lots of people, great sales, free parking, reasonable hotel rates.
- Amazing crowds - beautiful smooth production of show from start to finish - & of course sales!
- The visitors were very enthusiastic and respectful. Well organized show. Small number of artists.
- The quality of the artwork is the best I've seen this year
- Sales were good and the show was very organized.
- Particularly impressed with the attention to and communication about the weather.
- People attend and have a great time. Shows should cater to the people who come so they enjoy it and return.
- Overall just a great show.
- Great crowds, great artist relations.
- I did well with sales, the crowd was friendly and educated, the show staff was very helpful and generous, great time! |
| 4b. Why? |
- Willing and able customers
-SLAF has all of the key factors in place and succeeds because all factors come together during the show. This show has the most positive energy of any show I have ever participated in.
- Sales quality of staff/volunteer commitment, great breakfast
- I don't do a lot of shows, so I don't have a lot to go on. I just know this fair is so well organized and the people are great and the hospitality center is marvelous! Easy load in and out, accessible parking, wonderful brunch
- Better sales, better staff for the artists (free food and water)
- You treat the artists quite well, THANKS!
- We do not need people, we need to attract people that want to own art. These folks came for the entertainment.
- Your artists relations are excellent. This show's reputation is excellent. But I really didn't like the mixing of corporate booths with artist booths. The newspaper booth next to me was aggresively hawking subscriptions with cheaply made trinkets from China.
- Good quality
- Smaller number of artists, entertainment well placed
- Good weather, large, informed crowd
- You have kept the level of quality, sales, organization and crowd size and quality at the consistently high level from the first year on. This is very impressive.
- See #2, also handing out the water and fruit and snacks was greatly appreciated
- Active, interested public, well-attended
- The only outdoor shows that we do are cherry creek, plaza and St. Louis and they are all comparable. The quality of work at the indoor shows are higher than any of the street fairs
- No sales
- This was the first out door show in 10 years for me so its hard to compare
- Relative in comparison / ratings of items in #2
- compared to other outdoor shows, this was a top experience. Great size, great crowd, great staff, good sales.
- Sales above average
- Most shows don't excel in all areas, YOU ROCK!
- sales/crowds
- Smaller show, good, interested crowds.
- Outdoor shows are mixed, sometimes do better at indoor fine craft/art with paid admission
- Terrific audience, great volunteers, felt like people appreciated us being here.
- No letdowns in organization and running of the show. Artists relief center is great. Volunteers first rate. Positive attitude. Right
amount and volume of music. Artist quality top notch. Excellent advertising.
- Very professional, though jury seemed a little uneven
- Many people told me they no longer come and that worried me. However, I found there was a large crowd and people seemed to be having a good time. It's a friendly, relaxed atmosphere of people who are interested in art.
- Very high quality audience. 165 artists is great. Not too many artists. It was amazing how many people knew this was my first year.
- We appreciated the treatment by the staff, giving us water and snacks. The food, entertainment and artists were all high quality. A lot of other shows we do are not as considerate of our needs.

| 14. What suggestions would you make to improve the Saint Louis Art Fair in the future? |
- No complaints, thank you!
- I did think it was strange that I was asked if I was ever arrested on the merchant's license. I have never been arrested by I found it offensive
- Police walking around ordering you to close your booth at 10:00 pm seemed a little weird
- On-line application - zaapplication
- When you drive far it's nice to have friendly check-in people.
- Please help us recycle
- Ask jurors to give all artists equal attention - it is easy to feel bad when juror doesn’t even come into your booth.
- Please give award winners their choice of booth location
- One award per media
- Seems like lots of folks were carrying bags of free stuff from sponsors. I know they are a huge part of the show but bags of free swag might have replaced some purchase
- Better artist rate for hotel - rooms were available at the Sheraton for $45 on priceline
- Surprised not to see recycling bins.
- Can't think of anything! Just a big heartfelt THANK You -beautiful job
- It would be nice if the art pieces donated were sent ahead and used the same year as the show, not a year later so people could see work and come to your booth
- Nothing, terrific as usual
- Less loud music
- Earlier set-up time!
- Include an artist/peer jurying element
- I would pay a greater booth fee to have the option of a larger tent.
- Have the awards make sense. Multiple 2nd places in the same categories but not ceramics award?
- Better directions to check-in place
- Cut down on the beer - Saturday night was unpleasant with rude, drunk people - get more people to buy art
- We had the best St. Louis Art Fair ever. Sales were above expectation, a very knowing and appreciative crowd.
- Have a separate category for leather so that we don't have to compete with other fiber artists.
- How could you make it any better? It's terrific!
- Artist booths and sponsor booths should not be side by side
- Not having awards in all categories skews the show too much towards the juror's favorite media
- Change the hotel - it was not a good experience - no ice, elevators, parking
- Put corporate booths in their own area
- Advertise to the population that buys art
- Focus on visual art
- Eliminate "non artists" (corporate and non profit) booths
- Monitor music sound and booth placement. Bring a higher end, non-party audience
- The fair may be getting a bit stuffy/conservative. Implementing jurors who are younger, or even possibly peers would help support fresh, young work and keep the fair looking young - the audience will stay youthful if the work does.
- Don't really know
- Move St. Louis closer to Austin. Seriously this show is great.
- My booth was near a power strip crossing the street and I saw quite a few people trip and several go down on the ground. The need to be safer
- Bring water more frequently
- Ask the showers to hold off until late Sunday night
- Can't think of a single thing. If it ain't broke - don't fix it!
